ARTIVISM - the catalyst for creative change.
As an Artisitvist I'm inspired by Ghandhi's quote
'Be the Change you want to see in the World'u As an 'artivist' I aim to be the catalyst for creative change. This addresses the fine artist/ commercial art contradiction of desiring to self express whilst still being of service to the world . Here's an article that sums up my philosophy |

GLADYS THE RECYCLESCOPE - REUSE OUTREACH
Gladys the Inyo County Recyclescope - a creative way to reduce landfillThe State of California mandates a commercial solid waste recycling program that consists of public outreach and education promoting reuse and recycling in a manner designed to divert solid waste from landfills.
There was a need to develop a reuse and recycling display for use at community events, and in schools and public buildings to complement its other ongoing public education activities designed to help satisfy the State’s requirements. The County asked me to design & create a giant kaleidoscope 'Gladys' made from recycled materials, the color wheel for which could be propelled by the user and modified with respect to resulting imagery through the use of various recycled materials. She has been exhibited at a variety of public event and succeeded in exciting the imagination with respect to how otherwise discarded objects may be reused or recycled; and fosters a sense of community or create communal experience. Gladys is the perfect spokesperson to help achieve the County’s goals in reducing landfill. Further action such as integration of reuse education through the common core curriculum and a recycle drop off in Lone Pine - is in the works - involving the collaboration of Government, Native American Tribes, Artist, Educators and the Community. RID THE LANDSCAPE OF PLASTIC BAGS
How to spot, shoot & capture a feral plastic bag.A creative way to rid the landscape of plastic bags.Even though there is a ban on plastic bags in many counties, there are still plastic bags in wild littering the environment. Thanks to the endorsement of the Plastic Pollution Coalition, I am currently gathering a team to create a mobile mini site that allows you to photograph, post via Instagram & Geo tag in a map any feral bag that you see. You must pick up the bag afterwards. There will be rewards in the form of re-useable bags and hopefully discounts from the stores who's bags you retrieved. -Check out the dummy version to your left and watch this space for updates.
